All Fields Must Be Filled Out

A Century of Kissling Engineering Excellence

Kissling has been engineering precision gear units since 1925 — building their global reputation on ropeway and ski lift gear units that debuted on the world stage at the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics. Today, Kissling gearboxes power everything from mountain gondolas and chairlifts to cement mills, sugar refineries, and amusement park rides. When one of these critical units goes down, Specialty Gear Drives is ready to get it back online fast.

We Don't Press Bearings We Use Liquid Nitrogen

Most repair shops use hydraulic presses to install bearings — a method that can stress the bearing race and shorten service life. At Specialty Gear Drives, we use liquid nitrogen to thermally shrink each shaft, then drop a super-heated bearing into place. Gravity and physics do the work, creating a perfect interference fit without any stress on the component. The result is a longer-lasting bearing installation that meets or exceeds OEM specifications — every time.

    Is Your Kissling Gearbox Down?

Whether you’re operating a ski resort with a lift out of service, a cement plant with a downed conveyor drive, or a processing facility with a failed ropeway unit — downtime on Kissling equipment is urgent. Specialty Gear Drives has the technicians, tooling, and in-house manufacturing capability to handle any Kissling repair, fast.

We repair both current-model and legacy Kissling gearboxes across their full product line. Our blueprint archive and reverse engineering capabilities mean we can manufacture parts for units that are no longer in OEM production — keeping older equipment running without costly replacement.

    Kissling Gearbox Models We Repair

From standard industrial gear units to massive ropeway drives, our shop handles the full Kissling product range — including discontinued and hard-to-source legacy models.

Ropeway & Ski Lift Gear Units

Kissling's flagship product — ropeway gear units with torque ratings from 120 kNm to 570 kNm. We repair gondolas, chairlifts, T-bars, and cable-driven transport systems of all configurations.

    Standard Industrial Gearboxes

Heavy-duty Kissling standard gear units used across cement, sugar, mining, and general manufacturing. We restore these to full OEM specification, including all housing and shaft work.

    Planetary Gear Units

Kissling planetary gearboxes designed for high-torque, compact applications. We disassemble, inspect, and rebuild every carrier, ring gear, and sun gear to exact dimensional tolerances.

    Turbo & Special Gear Units

Including the specialized 16 hydraulic twin and 8 single motor pinion configurations used in rollercoasters and high-cycle amusement applications — fully supported by our engineering team.

    Narrow & Spur Gear Units

Kissling narrow gear units and straight bevel configurations for space-constrained industrial applications. We manufacture replacement gearing in-house when OEM parts are no longer available.

    Custom & Legacy Kissling Models

Legacy and custom-built Kissling gearboxes no longer supported by OEM parts supply. Our blueprint archive and reverse engineering capabilities keep these critical units running.

    Kissling Gear Types We Manufacture

When a Kissling gear or shaft is beyond repair, we produce a new one on-site. Our CNC gear-cutting center handles all profiles across the Kissling product range, with diameters up to 20 feet.

    Common Kissling Gearbox Failures

Even the most ruggedly built Kissling units are vulnerable to certain failure modes under sustained operational stress. Our diagnostics team identifies the root cause before any repair begins.

    Gear Tooth Fatigue & Pitting

High-cycle loads in ropeway and industrial applications cause progressive surface fatigue. Early pitting accelerates to spalling and tooth fracture if not addressed at the first sign of wear.

    Thrust Bearing Collapse

Axial load spikes from cable tension and shock events cause premature thrust bearing failure in Kissling ropeway units. We replace all bearings using our liquid nitrogen installation process.

    Overheating & Thermal Damage

Continuous-duty operations generate sustained thermal loads that degrade lubricant, seals, and eventually the gear mesh itself.

    Seal Failure & Oil Leaks

Shaft seal wear allows lubricant escape and contamination ingress. Outdoor ropeway environments accelerate internal damage.

    Shaft Wear & Fretting

Cyclic torsional loads and misalignment cause fretting corrosion and keyway damage. We recondition or manufacture new shafts to OEM tolerances.

    Housing Bore Deterioration

Bearing migration and shock loads damage housing bores, causing misalignment. Precision line-boring restores exact geometry.

    Abnormal Vibration & Noise

Vibration signatures indicate worn gear mesh, loose components, or imbalance — all corrected during full rebuild.

    Contamination & Corrosion

Outdoor installations allow water, dust, and debris ingress. We fully clean, inspect, and restore all affected parts.

The Specialty Gear Drives Repair Process

A disciplined, documented rebuild process — no shortcuts, no guesswork. Every Kissling gearbox leaves our shop certified and tested.
