All Fields Must Be Filled Out

Is your P.D. Pump losing pressure, leaking product, or suffering from cavitation?

Whether you are pumping high-viscosity crude oil, food-grade corn syrup, or abrasive chemical slurries, the Positive Displacement pump is the workhorse of your process line. When a Viking internal gear pump, a Moyno progressive cavity pump, or a Waukesha lobe pump goes down, the entire flow stops. At Specialty Gear Drives, we apply our precision machining expertise to the world of industrial pumps. We specialize in the analysis and repair of all major P.D. pump brands. We return your equipment to better-than-OEM condition, often saving you up to 60% compared to the cost of a new unit.

    The Heartbeat Of Viscous Flow

Precision Tolerances for Constant Flow. Unlike centrifugal pumps, Positive Displacement pumps rely on incredibly tight internal clearances to move fluid at a constant rate, regardless of pressure. Whether it is an Internal Gear, External Gear, Lobe, Vane, or Screw pump, the efficiency of the unit depends entirely on the gap between the rotating element and the housing. Over time, abrasive fluids and high pressures scour these surfaces, increasing “slip” and drastically reducing efficiency. When these pumps fail, simply swapping a seal isn’t enough. You need a shop that understands the hydrodynamics of the pump and has the machining capabilities to restore the original volumetric efficiency. Because we are experts in rotating mechanical equipment, we can rebuild pumps that other shops would simply scrap. We service all major brands, including Roper, Tuthill, Blackmer, Netzsch, and Seepex.

    Common P.d. Pump Failures

    Where Efficiency Is Lost

The failure of a P.D. pump is often gradual—until it becomes catastrophic. We frequently analyze and repair:

    Rotor & Gear Scouring

Abrasive particles in the fluid scour the surface of lobes, gears, or screws, opening clearances and allowing fluid to slip backward, resulting in loss of flow and pressure.

    Mechanical Seal Failure

Misalignment or vibration damages mechanical seal faces, leading to hazardous leaks and potential environmental violations.

    Housing Washout

Uneven wear of the internal casing wall prevents proper sealing. If the housing is not perfectly round, new rotors cannot build pressure.

    Shaft Deflection

High-viscosity loads can bend or wear the drive shaft at bearing journals, causing vibration that leads to overall unit failure.

    Our Repair & Machining Process

Restoring Clearances to Factory Specs. Our repair process is rooted in our machining background. We don’t just replace parts; we restore geometry. It begins with a free nationwide pickup and a complete decontamination and tear-down of your pump. We use micrometers and bore gauges to map the wear patterns inside the housing and on the rotating elements. If the housing is washed out, we don’t force you to buy a new one. We can bore and sleeve the casing with high-grade stainless steel or hardened alloys, machining it back to the original OEM diameter. If the shafts are worn, we manufacture new ones in-house, heat-treated for maximum durability. We lap mechanical seal faces to optical flatness and install premium bearings. Finally,
we reassemble the pump with precise rotor timing and perform a hydrostatic pressure test to ensure the unit is leak-free and ready for service.
